Kim Woo Bin dishes on his thoughts about his new drama "Black Knight" and responds to the public's concern regarding the smoking scene.

The Hallyu star made a bold small screen comeback a year after the success of the star-studded K-drama "Our Blues." From being the Jeju native in the tvN series, Kim Woo Bin transformed into a legendary delivery man, 5-8, in "Black Knight."

As the post apocalptic K-drama garnered global attention, some viewers expressed their concern after Kim Woo Bin was spotted in a scene where he was smoking a cigar.

Viewers thought it might affect the actor's health, especially since he just returned from a 4-year hiatus due to health issues.

Kim Woo Bin Talks About His Smoking Scene in 'Black Knight'

Kim Woo Bin answered a bunch of questions relating to his new series "Black Knight," and addressed the concerns regarding the smoking scene.

In an interview with Wikitree, the Hallyu actor wiped away all the viewers' worries and assured the public that the team, especially the director, looked after his health.

The top star shared that upon receiving the offer, "Black Knight" director Cho Ui Seok considered removing all smoking settings; however, Kim Woo Bin had a different take on this. He said that one of 5-8's characteristics is smoking, so instead he recommended using computer graphics to do these scenes.

"Director Choi Eui Seok suggested moving the whole smoking idea because it's not good for my health," he said, adding, "but I thought smoking really fit with 5-8's character. So I told him I would try to express it with CG, if possible."

The "Black Knight" lead star also shared a glimpse of the production process. Kim Woo Bin revealed that he used a "short cigarette model prop" for the specific scenes.

"Since my movement is like this, when the cigarette smoke comes to my eyes, it'll sting. At this point, the cigarette ash will fall, so I dust off my clothes," he explained.

The actor also praised the team behind the movie, who "made everything in detail."

'Black Knight' Director Says Smoking Scene is 100% CGI

The "Black Knight" director previously addressed the viewers' concern and shared that all the smoking scenes are purely CGI. Cho Ui Seok said that smoking is one of 5-8's identities, and it will look "bland" if they remove this detail.

"However, since it was Kim Woo Bin's choice not to smoke, we couldn't make him do so. After a lot of deliberation, the CGI team helped us, and all the smoking scenes were done with special effects," the director explained, as obtained by a news outlet.
