Dr. Romantic Season 4

"Dr. Romantic" director Yoo In Shik spills the tea regarding the past seasons of the medical K-drama as well as the possibility of having season 4.

Since season 1 back in 2016, viewers have shown great love and support for the medical K-drama, hence why the show reached its third season.

During the interview with the genius behind "Dr. Romantic," Yoo In Shik revealed the secrets behind the hit K-drama.

As mentioned by a media outlet, the director revealed the initial plan for "Dr. Romantic."

'Dr. Romantic' Initially Plan to Have Only One Season

Director Yoo In Shik revealed that "Dr. Romantic" is not intended to air in multiple seasons.

He revealed that they had to rebuild the set, particularly the Doldam Hospital, for the continuity of the K-drama.

"So (after the decision to make Season 2), we had to start by rebuilding the already demolished Doldam Hospital set and collecting scattered props to recreate Doldam Hospital in the same way," he said, hence why the second season was released three years after the first installment.

Although they had to recreate the set from the original setup as seen in season 1, the director shared that "there were parts that felt slightly different from season to season."

When asked about the changes from season 1 to season 3, director Yoo In Shik points out the vibe and the effect on the screen.

He described "Dr. Romantic" season 1 as "old and gloomy, like a homecoming lodge," which is a representation of Kim Sa Bu, played by Han Suk Kyu, "who abandoned the world" and is hiding at the shabby countryside hospital.

"The characters were much more eccentric and traumatic, and the story was more classic and symbolic," he explained, adding, "while the medical scene is tough and documentary like a field hospital."

As for season 2, the tone has changed, making it look "brighter."

"The reality of the medical scene needed to be further reinforced as advanced equipment was introduced into the operating room," he added.

Meanwhile, the director shared that "Dr. Romantic 3" has the "biggest change" because of the trauma center.

They included the "reality of the medical world in Korea" along with the advice given by the medical staff on set.

"Nevertheless, I tried not to miss the warm humanism in every corner so that the identity of the series would not be shaken," director Yoo In Shik added.

Will there be 'Dr. Romantic' Season 4?

As for the highly anticipated answer as to whether the Doldam family will return for season 4, the director admitted that it " is not easy to guarantee the possibility of the next season since it was not originally planned as a season-based drama."

He said they have to create a story that can be told after the trauma center and check if actors "can gather like a miracle once again."

Despite this, director Yoo In Shik hoped that viewers "would keep an eye on an update regarding the series.
