Besides the cast's synergy and overall performance, its premise and how well it is written can make or break the whole vibe of the show.

For years, many K-Dramas flopped and were cut short due to low ratings that were brought by mediocre acting and cringe-worthy scripts, which disappointed a lot of domestic and global viewers.

Let's look back and recall some of the works that started off great and gradually declined in the second half of broadcast. Read to know more.

'The Penthouse'

The SBS drama "The Penthouse" is one of the finest releases in the South Korean television scene with its A-list cast and showrunners.

It became a major hit during its premiere which earned the work three epic seasons. Though it was released in 2021, the work remains the highest rated series up until this writing.

Despite its victories, the work still faced controversies regarding its downgraded script at the end of the season that frustrated many viewers.

This was because of the writers' constant killing and reviving of characters which totally knocked off the drama's logical flow and surprising elements.

'Our Blooming Youth'

Many fans anticipated the premiere of "Our Blooming Youth" that marked the return of Park Hyung Sik to the spotlight.

Unfortunately, the drama didn't live up to the hype, making every audience question the idol-actor's credibility in acting.

However, the fans redirected the blame to the scriptwriters for their poorly helmed work and questionable twists and turns that didn't make sense in regards with the plot.

'Itaewon Class'

Park Seo Joon and Kim Da Mi dominated the Hallyu scene in 2020 with their romance melodrama "Itaewon Class."

The series also gained global attention, making it a phenomenon across Asia and the United States. It also received an all-time high score during its premiere.

Unfortunately, the drama's exciting plot declined after the drama swayed away from the revenge plot, and focused on the characters' awkward love line.

'Kokdu: Season of Deity'

Im Soo Hyang and Kim Jung Hyun's fantasy romance drama "Kokdu: Season of Deity" is also included in the list, making it the most recent letdown in the K-Drama scene.

During the work's announcement, many were excited for the duo's return. However, the drama has been entangled in controversies even before its release.

The scriptwriters salvaged the work by changing a lot of arcs in the plot, which resulted in the work's lack of cohesion and purpose.

'Family: The Unbreakable Bond'

Jang Na Ra's comeback drama "Family: The Unbreakable Bond" unfortunately didn't escape criticism despite being an anticipated work this year.

Since it's a reunion drama with her onscreen partner Jang Hyuk, fans' expectations were put on a pedestal and sadly, these weren't met

The work offered an off-beat comedy and storyline and a number of inappropriate details in the script, disappointing the viewers.
