‘Heartbeat’ Episode 1: Ok Taecyeon Fails to Transform as Human Because of Won Ji An
Feeling enthusiastic to fulfill his dream of becoming a human, Sun Woo Yeol (Ok Taecyeon) ended up in an unfortunate event with Joo In Hae, which stopped him from being immortal in "Heartbeat" episode 1.
'Heartbeat' Episode 1: Sun Woo Yeol Determined to Become Human
In "Heartbeat" episode 1, back in the Joseon Dynasty, Sun Woo Yeol (Ok Taecyeon) was chased by vampire hunters along with Yoon Ha Seon (Yoon So Hee). After human greed that eating vampire blood can last forever, Hae Seon was hit by an arrow which caused her death.
Woo Yeol struggled to become a human after being deeply in love in the past. He was navigating his life in the modern day and was surprised to meet (Kim In Kwon) Go Yang Nam, disguised as a cat.
Go Yang Nam discovered that Sun Woo Yeol was brokenhearted as he wanted to become a full human. He then gives him advice on how he can finally fulfill his desire and that is to wake up from sleeping in a Sansa tree coffin for 100 years.
Sun Woo Yeol immediately followed Yang Nam's advice and stayed inside the coffin for a long time, with the help of Lee Sang Hae (Yoon Byung Hee), Park Dong Seop (Go Kyu Pil), and Butler Joo (Park Chul Min).

As time passed to modern times, Joo In Hae (Won Ji An) faced a series of desperate moments. Working as a part-time health teacher, was scammed by her landlord, and was on the verge of being kicked out of her house.
Joo In Hae Interrupts Sun Woo Yeol's Process of Becoming Immortal
However, she inherited an old mansion from her father. As someone who had nowhere to go, she headed to the mansion and unexpectedly found Sun Woo Yeol. She went to the basement of the mansion and found a mysterious coffin, and as she opened it, Sun Woo Yeol woke up and caused tension between the two.
Woo Yeol could not hide his joy as he believed that he had become a human already. Joo In Hae, who sensed his strange behavior, reacted sharply and tried to kick him out of the house.
Anxiously, Sun Woo Yeol saw the blood and found out that he had not become a human being yet. It turned out that he still needed one day to fulfill the 100 years before he turned into an immortal. He ended up becoming half-human and half-vampire.
Joo In Hae, who found him strange, bit Woo Yeol's neck and scuffled as she approached him. A chaotic first meeting happened between the two strangers.
