In April, MBC confirmed Lee Je Hoon's participation in the project. He is booked to portray the younger version of the titular chief inspector Park Young Han, previously played by veteran actor Choi Bool Am.

In the original series, Park Young Han was a fully-formed detective, while Lee Je Hoon's character version is expected to be younger and naive. He will struggle with his fury against the cruel reality of the world that ruins people's dignity.

Aside from his journey, the prequel will also follow the journey of Park Young Han forming his team, which will be composed of his beloved detectives that made up his squad in the older version.

Furthermore, other cast members who will also appear in the series are yet to be announced soon. Once everything is settled, the production team will proceed with filming "Chief Inspector 1963" in the second half of 2023.
