Hong Kyung widened his acting spectrum this summer of 2023 as he took on the challenge of the occult horror genre.

Alongside Kim Tae Ri, the 27-year-old actor decorates prime time with his sterling portrayal of a detective in the SBS TV drama "Revenant."

1. Hong Kyung has an acting degree.

It's not uncommon for Hallyu superstars to pursue education but some just find it hard to allot time especially when they finally have greener pastures.

However, that's not the case for Hong Kyung. The "Revenant" star made sure to finish his studies first before stepping into the battlefield-like industry.

Hong Kyung attended the prestigious Hanyang University which produced world class actors Jang Geun Suk, Ji Sung, Lee Byung Hun, Kim So Hyun and more.

He earned his degree in acting as a theater and film major before finally focusing on his career as an actor.

2. Hong Kyung debuted in 2017.

Unlike many other actors, Hong Kyung debuted at 21 which is deemed later than most. The actor bagged a supporting role in the drama "Queen of Mystery," which earned him the opportunity to appear in "School 2017" within the same year.

At the moment, Hong Kyung has appeared in more than 15 acting projects including "Weak Hero Class 1," which earned him a nomination as Best New Actor at the 2023 Baeksang Arts Awards.

3. Hong Kyung received his first critical acclaim in 2020.

At the height of the pandemic, Hong Kyung made his film debut with the crime drama "Innocence" alongside Shin Hye Sun.

The film was based on the life of Ahn Jung In, a lawyer who defends her mother who's accused of murdering someone at her husband's funeral.

Hong Kyung took on the role of Ahn Jung Soo, Shin Hye Sun's character's younger brother who is diagnosed with autism.

His profound performance earned him his first ever critical acclaim, bagging the Best New Actor at the 2021 Baeksang Arts Awards.

4. Hong Kyung once worked with Girls' Generation Taeyeon.

As a rising actor, Hong Kyung was also given the chance to star in the music video of "Can't Control Myself," a rock song released by Girls' Generation Taeyeon in 2022.

It was a pre-release digital single that introduced the singer's third album "INVU." In the music video, Hong Kyung perfectly portrayed the unhappiness that his character feels in his painful relationship.
