Lee Honey Earns Best Actress Title at New York Asian Film Festival

Former beauty queen and now K-drama lead star Lee Honey delivered good news on July 30 as media outlets reported that she bagged the Best Actress Award at the 22nd New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), the news was confirmed by her agency, Saram Entertainment. 

The New York Asian Film Festival is a representative Asian Film Festival in North America held annually in New York. This 2023, the prestigious ceremony marked its 22nd anniversary. 

For this year, "Killing Romance" starring Lee Honey was selected as the opening film, followed by the movie "Phantom," which also starred the actress. Through these works, the female star captivated global viewers with her noteworthy acting.

In particular, the best acting award won by the "One the Woman" actress is even more meaningful as it is given to an actor who has shown unrivaled outstanding performance.

Lee Honey expressed her gratitude to the people who have supported her and are always there in her acting journey.

"I am so grateful and truly honored to receive this award. 'Killing Romance' and 'Phantom' are films made through a difficult process while the world confronts difficulties with COVID-19. As humans, we felt so weak and helpless in the face of an unprecedented pandemic, but over that time, we realized the huge power of art."

She continued, "Movies cannot be made by actors alone. The efforts of all the team members consisting of actors, directors, producers, and production staff are gathered to create such a masterpiece. Therefore, I think I receive this trophy as a representative of the team members I worked with, and I humbly accept it. Giving the honor of winning the award to the team members and staff who worked hard together."

Lee Honey retired in love with her husband (played by Lee Sun Kyun) in "Killing Romance," but she showcased a variety of passionate performances as she played the role of Hwang Yeo Rae, a retired pop star who dreams of returning on screen. 

She made another yet notable performance in "The Ghost" also known as "Phantom."

Furthermore, Lee Honey might have her small screen comeback as she is in talks to star in the upcoming comedy series "Aema." Her label confirmed that the actress is positively reviewing the cast offer.
