Broadcast networks and streaming platforms are gearing up with amazing new K-dramas set to air in October 2023. Interestingly, some of them include much-awaited sequels and spin-offs of fan-favorite K-dramas.

If you happen to love a certain K-drama, it's usual to look for season 2 of that particular show; however, some networks and platforms take months or even years to release a sequel.

On the other hand, there are some who chose to release a spin-off instead of a new season. The difference is that the spin-off of the show tends to introduce new characters, while the sequel is the continuation of the original show.

As we dive deep into new K-dramas, here are the shows returning with a sequel or spin-off.

'Hospital Playlist'

While fans await the highly anticipated "Hospital Playlist" season 3, tvN announced that they will be releasing a spin-off.

Titled "A Life of a Resident That Will Be Wise Someday," it depicts the journey of residents and professors at a university hospital, captivating viewers with real-life stories, friendships, and challenges within their profession.

Set in the fictional Jongno Yulje Hospital, lead stars include Go Yoon Jung from "Moving," Shin Shi Ah from "The Witch: Part 2," Kang Yoo Seok, who appeared in "Black Knight," Jung Joon Won from "A Model Family," and newbie actor Han Ye Ji.

Although the cast lineup featured new actors, the "Hospital Playlist" spin-off will be under the direction of Lee Min Soo, the genius behind "The Secret House" and "Good For You," and penned by Kim Song Hee, the assistant writer for "Reply 1988" and "Hospital Playlist."

Meanwhile, the original director and writer of "Hospital Playlist," Shin Won Ho, and Lee Woo Jung will be part of the production as the creators.

Following the official casting, "A Life of a Resident That Will Be Wise Someday" is scheduled to premiere in the first half of 2024, exclusively on TVN.

'Strong Girl Namsoon'

Based on the hit 2017 K-drama "Strong Girl Bong Soon," starring Park Hyung Sik and Park Bo Young, JTBC delivers a spin-off that every Do Bong Soon fan will surely love.

After six years since the first season aired, a new generation of strong women is making a comeback.

Along with her mother and grandmother, Do Bong Soon's cousin, Kang Nam Soon, will entertain viewers with exciting stories every week.

Slated to air on October 7, "Strong Girl Namsoon" stars Lee Yoo Mi as Nam Soon, along with the returning Kim Jung Eun and veteran actress Kim Hae Sook.

In addition, viewers will get to see Lee Yoo Mi's loveline with Ong Seung Woo's character while Byeon Woo Seok takes on the villain role named Ryu Shi Oh.

'Squid Game' Season 2

The list of K-dramas with season 2 will not be complete without the blockbuster K-drama "Squid Game."

After the Netflix series created a huge craze in 2021, the death-defying mission is back in 2024.

With a mix of new and returning cast members, "Squid Game" season 2 stars Lee Byung Hun, Lee Jung Jae, and Wi Ha Joon, along with Kang Ha Neul, Im Si Wan, and more.
