Nam Joo Hyuk Shares Challenges Filming His First Action K-drama ‘Vigilante’

Viewers are thrilled to see Nam Joo Hyuk's return to K-drama as he stars in the upcoming series "Vigilante."

The Disney+ series is among the highly anticipated K-drama premiering in the second half of 2023. Taking on a challenging role, Nam Joo Hyuk plays Kim Ji Yong, a model police student at a university who upholds justice by becoming a vigilante by night.

As Disney+ gears up for the much-awaited release, Nam Joo Hyuk talks about his experience and preparations for filming the series.

Nam Joo Hyuk on Taking His First-Ever Action K-drama

In news obtained by a media outlet, Nam Joo Hyuk shared his affection for "Vigilante" and revealed that he was a fan of the webtoon.

"I really liked the webtoon called 'Vigilante' and I chose it because I really wanted to play the role of Kim Ji Yong," he said, sharing why he chose the series as his comeback K-drama after "Twenty-Five Twenty-One."

Since "Vigilante" is his first ever action K-drama, Nam Joo Hyuk underwent various physical trainings, including boxing, judo, and martial arts, and perfected his physique through weight training.

According to him, he discussed the details of his role with the martial arts team while filming," showing how he is hands-on with his character.

Nam Joo Hyuk on Having Dual Characters

In "Vigilante," Kim Ji Yong has his alter ego, the anti-hero, who punishes the criminals who got away from the law and escaped justice. For him, playing two different characters was one of the most challenging parts of his performance.

"I think the feeling was very different when I wore a police uniform and when I wore Vigilante clothes," he said, referring to his character as Kim Ji Yong and the mysterious vigilante.

In terms of acting, Nam Joo Hyuk said that every time he portrays the vigilante, he "acts with a darker, different kind of seriousness," and instead of expressing intense emotions for the role, he depicts it internally."

'Vigilante' Release Date, Cast

Based on the webtoon of the same name, "Vigilante" is directed by "Start-Up" director Choi Jeong Yeol, and Nam Joo Hyuk also headlined the series with Bae Suzy and Kim Seon Ho.

Slated to air on Disney+ and Hulu on November 8, the upcoming series will air every Wednesday, for a total of 8 episodes for the whole season.

"Vigilante" focuses on the story of Kim Ji Yong, who takes justice into his own hands.

He may look like a model police university student, but Ji Yong works as a vigilante who punishes criminals.

Joining Nam Joo Hyuk is Yoo Ji Tae as Chief Investigator Jo Heon from the Metropolitan Investigation Unit.

Adding to the cast lineup are Kim So Jin as Choi Mi Ryeo and Lee Joon Hyuk as second-generation chaebol Jo Kang Ok, who supports the vigilante.
