Choi Gwang Rok Undergoes Dramatic Transformation for His 'The Atypical Family' Character

JTBC has once again delivered a new and intriguing drama, "The Atypical Family," top-billed by brilliant stars Jang Ki Yong and Chun Woo Hee.

But one fresh face that the viewers see every broadcast is the model-actor Roy, also known as Choi Gwang Rok. In the fantasy-romance series, he plays as the enigmatic Uncle Noh Hyung Tae, who exhibits a tough exterior with a sprinkle of softness.

His looks and physique may have charmed the audience, but not everyone seems to recognize his clean-shaven face. While some may think "The Atypical Family" is is drama debut, but it is actually his small-screen comeback.

Roy made his first drama appearance in the 2022 series "Green Mother's Club," in which he received a spotlight for his captivating portrayal of Korean-French Louis Benuel. Others were even curious whether he was half-Korean or even non-Korean.

Later on, it was revealed that Roy is a Korean man born and raised in Daejeon. He mentioned that he learned French for the role, and was praised for his amazing acting skills, despite being a newbie.

As he stars in "The Atypical Family," viewers were able to recognize Roy. After doing some research, they were bamboozled to see Roy's drastic transformation from Louis Benuel to Uncle Noh.

Roy Reveals Gaining 30kg for His 'The Atypical Family' Role

In an interview, Choi Gwang Rok shared that he gained about 30kgs for his character in "The Atypical Family."

"Gaining weight was not the easiest after being cast in 'The Atypical Family.' But I tried my best, grateful for the opportunity to play a character like Noh Hyung Tae. Personally, I really enjoyed filming the drama. I hope the viewers also fall in love with the character and me acting behind the role."
