Actor Yang Se-jong looked back on his new project, the Disney+ original Low Life—Drama, and gave kudos to veteran actor Ryu Seung-ryong while commenting on his own acting philosophy.

K-Star News sat down with Yang in downtown Seoul, where the actor shared his feelings on completing the series and taking on a tough new role.

Low Life—Drama recounts the tales of villagers during 1977 who get involved in plots to inherit a treasure ship that lies beneath the sea.

Directed by Big Bet and The Outlaws' Kang Yoon-sung and written by webtoon writer Yoon Tae-ho from Misaeng: Incomplete Life and Inside Men, the series has attracted attention for its raw storytelling.

Yang played the part of Hee-dong, a rough and aggressive character, a drastic change from his earlier romantic performances.

Sharing his reasons for being part of the project, Yang stated, "When I first received the script, I said I would do it the next day after I read it. I wanted to try the character Hee-dong because he has a rough and raw tendency."

He also shared what attracted him to the character. "While acting, he said, "I enjoyed the part where the impulse came up", and added, "Human Yang Se-jong has a lot of emotions, but Hee-dong does not, so I felt pleasure while acting."

The actor attributed his co-star Ryu Seung-ryong as an inspiration to work with. "We also watched performances in private and spent a lot of time together," Yang explained.

"He is a very warm and humorous person." He added that he also developed a natural chemistry with actress Kim Min-VI.

Yang spoke about having great admiration for the acting style of Ryu. "What I thought was amazing about Ryu Seung-ryong was that he calculated the entire narrative of the script," he stated. "It's very difficult to make an emotional connection to that part. I think he's really amazing because he did it."

For the future, Yang disclosed his ambitions. I have hope that if I get older, I will try to play Ryu Seung-ryong's role as Gwan-seok"," he said. I think Ryu Seung-ryong's acting is very difficult."

In Low Life - Drama, Yang Se-jong has demonstrated a new range of acting capabilities, with it also looking like he wants to emulate one of Korea's finest actors.
