Moon Chae-won is popular because of her likable acting roles in romantic comedies.

Moon is now branching out with a new horror-thriller movie, 'Ghost' (Korean title: Gwisi), directed by Hong Won-ki, to be released on September 17.
The crew and cast conducted a press screening and conference on September 9 at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Seoul.
Guests for the event were Moon Chae-won, director Hong, and co-actors Yoo Jae-myung, Seo Young-hee, and Won Hyun-joon.
Moon, who has been known as the "rom-com queen" for a long time, now tries to win a new crown—the "horror queen."
Sharing her lack of experience with the genre, Moon confessed at the press conference:
"Horror movies? I'm scared, so I don't really watch them..."

In spite of her reserve, she welcomed the role as a challenge to develop herself.
"I thought it would be a new experience for me. I was curious. I thought, 'I can approach the audience in a fresh way,'" she said.
Ghost takes place in an eerie "ghost market," where individuals get trapped in supernatural occurrences after the mythical fox window has opened. Moon portrayed Chaewon, a woman obsessed and envious who envies others in order to cover up her perceived inadequacies.
Discussing her casting, she said: "I'd never received an offer (for the horror genre) before. I received the offer this time and was curious about the outcome. I started with a light heart."
When creating her character, she said that it wasn't hard to relate to someone in a visible, image-driven profession.
"Because it's a visible profession, it wasn't difficult to empathize. It just came naturally," Moon said.
The emotional depth of the character, however, presented challenges. "I focused on portraying a character who was a little more obsessed with desire," she explained.
One of the symbolic moments in Ghost is when her character is dissatisfied while staring into a mirror.
When questioned about the scene, Moon smiled self-deprecatingly: "First of all, I'm not satisfied with myself. Even if others say I'm pretty, I'll have a complex that only I feel."
Speaking about the film, she continued: "While watching the (completed) movie, I thought a lot about how well it was filmed."
She concluded with hope for the genre's future. "I hope to see more bold films in the Korean film industry. If Ghost can win the affection of horror fans in the process, it would be rewarding."
