Sports Seoul says that Kim Ji Soo's first big problem happened on July 30, 2000, when she crashed her car at Hakdong Intersection in Gangnam while very drunk, with a blood alcohol level of 0.175%. She didn't have a license to drive, so she had to pay ₩3.42 million KRW (approximately $2,360 to $2,370 USD). After the event, she quit being the DJ for KBS2 Radio's To You Who Forgot the Night and was replaced in other projects.
On October 5, 2010, she got drunk and hit a taxi in Cheongdam-dong, then ran away. This was her second alcohol-related incident. The police confirmed that she had confessed, and she was fined ₩10 million KRW (approximately $6,910 to $6,930 USD). She was being considered for a part in a KBS 2TV drama at the time, but she was ultimately not cast.
In 2018, Kim Ji Soo got more bad press for showing up to a press interview for the movie Perfect Strangers late and clearly drunk. When asked if she had been drinking, she said, "Yes, does that bother you? You can ask your questions; I can answer them." Her agency, Namoo Actors, stopped the interview and later said that the stress of filming may have played a role in what happened.
Even though things have gone wrong, Kim Ji Soo seems determined to focus on new projects abroad. Fans will have to wait and see if she can rebuild her career after years of public scrutiny.
