Nickelodeon's new show, Wallykazam!, is creating a new world of learning and literacy for pre-schoolers as it premiered on Monday, February 3 at 1pm.
The wonderfully adorable and clever children's show is created by Adam Peltzman, a head writer on The Backyardigans, Blue's Clues and The Electric Company. Children and their parents will be sucked into the enchanting world of Wally Trollman, the infectious blue troll, and his pet dragon, Norville.
The episodes of Wallykazam! are based on a letter-sound-rhyme of the day while Wally makes the word appear on screen with his magic stick. The magical troll creates a world that challenges its target audience by using advanced words, such as "somersault" and "symphony."
The brightly colored adventures keep the animation entertaining as it skillfully sneaks learning into each episode. The creator and writers of the show seem to consciously keep the politics of Wally's world as relevant to a child's real world. The supporting characters such as Ogre Doug, Gina (a giant) and Libby Light Sprite (a fairy) come in various, playful colors that can be interpreted as covering the race of every child.
Wallykazam! has the potential to be huge in the community of pre-schoolers, parents as well as television addicts all around. There is already a chunky list of celebrity guests that will be appearing on season 1 including Vanessa Bayer of SNL, John O' Hurley of Seinfeld, musician Weird Al Yankovic, Kate Micucci of The Big Bang Theory and Alanna Ubach of See Dad Run. The comedic aspect laced in the learning and creativity of Wallykazam! will pave the way of stardom for the good-hearted Wally every Monday at 1pm on Nickelodeon.
