Yes, teen Heartthrob Harry Styles did really say that!
The former Taylor Swift flame was quick to correct that it is in terms of fame-wise, and explains that his band is far from achieving the Beatles' greatness if the criteria is based on innovation in music.
In an interview with Top of the Pops magazine, Styles elaborated on the similarities between the X-factor-created band and the Fab Four: "We all sat and watched the film of the Beatles arriving in America. And, to be honest, that really was like us. Stepping off the plane, the girls, the madness. It was exactly the same as when we got there - just 50 years earlier."
"But none of us think we're in the same league as them music-wise. We'd be total fools if we did. Fame-wise, it's probably even bigger, but we don't stand anywhere near them in terms of music," he clarified.
Style's pop group that comprises of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson are achieving worldwide sales and sold-out concerts everywhere that a Fab Four comparison might just be in check.
To support the claim, international music industry body IFPI named One Direction the most popular artists of 2013 after a thorough analysis of legal downloads, streams and physical sales. IFPI's top ten recording artists also includes Eminem, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars and Katy Perry.
'Midnight Memories', One Direction's third album also made history by charting at Number One in the US Billboard charts last year. It earned them the distinction to be the first group to ever debut at the number 1 spot with their three consecutive records.
Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney did hear about the comparison and surprisingly, agreed. Speaking with Sky News, he revealed that he likes One Direction and that they're "young, beautiful boys and that's the big attraction."
The "Yesterday" singer added: "But they can sing, they make good records, so I think that's what I would see in common [with The Beatles]. Girls love them."
