"The Lego Movie" has hit No. 1 at the box office, earning $69.1 million on its opening weekend.
The animated action comedy is the second biggest February opening ever, following 2004's "Passion of the Christ," which earned $83.8 million during its first week.
The box office hit has quite the star-studded cast with the voices of Will Ferrell, Chris Pratt, Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, just to name a few.
The family friendly animation beat out George Clooney's "Monument's Men," which came in second place in the box office with $22.7 million.
The World War II film has also been receiving negative reviews from critics.
Kenneth Turan from The Times wrote about the film, "Earnest and well-intentioned but ultimately inert, 'The Monument's Men' talks a better game than it can deliver."
Turan continued, "The problem is that 'Monument's Men's' eyes are bigger than it stomach. In attempting to mix ersatz 'Ocean's Eleven' buddy humor with life-threatening World War II action whiled doing justice to the true story that underlies it all, the film never finds a consistent tone and ends up lacking in all areas."
Even with an A-List cast including, Matt Damon, John Goodman and George Clooney himself, the film seemed to lack the credentials of a memorable war film.
Meanwhile, "The Lego Movie" has been receiving positive reviews all around.
Rolling Stone's Peter Travers stated, "The brightly-imagined Lego Movie is a wickedly smart and funny free-for-all, and sassy enough to shoot well-aimed darts at corporate branding."
Bill Zwecker of the Chicago Sun-Times has said, "The visuals are spectacular, the 3D technology is artfully used and the story is jam-packed with so many funny lines, it's hard to catch all the jokes that are delivered in rapid-fire succession - constantly tweaking many popular culture icons."
A sequel is already in development for "The Lego Movie."
