John Oliver HBO Show Given Title And Premiere Date: ‘Daily Show’ Comedian Leaves Jon Stewart For ‘Best Sandbox You Could Possibly Play In’

John Oliver of "The Daily Show" has parted ways with comedian Jon Stewart and is playing with the big boys.

The big boys meaning HBO.

The British comedian had worked on "The Daily Show" since 2006 as both a writer and a presenter. He was a guest-host for Jon Stewart last summer as well and received mostly positive reviews.

Oliver will now be hosting his own show on HBO titled, "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver."

The premiere date will be April 27 at 11pm.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Oliver has said of the show, "It will be making fun of things."

He added, "... I am different, so we'll be approaching things in a different way." As a weekly show, he explained that he "can look backwards and forwards at the same time" and that he'll "have a chance to take one step back, and I hope we'll make a virtue of that."

Despite his tearful farewell with Comedy Central in December, Oliver is clearly happy with the less-restrictive nature of HBO.

He has said "HBO is almost objectively the best sandbox you could possibly play in."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver" will be running as a half-hour format and will air on Sunday nights.

It's expected to get a lead-in from Sunday night HBO comedies such as "Veep" and "Silicon Valley," both shows will premiere on April 6 before Oliver starts on HBO.

A network release of Oliver's new show described it as "a satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events."

The Hollywood Reporter has added that a talk show running as a half-hour show is new for HBO.

Hopefully, that'll bring in more views, as the comedian so deserves.
