Ellen Page has come out as gay while delivering a speech at the Human Rights Campaign's Time To THRIVE conference for LGBTQ youth in Las Vegas.
The actress stated, "I'm here today because I am gay."
The audience erupted with applause as the actress up at the podium with a smile.
The "Juno" actress thanked those in the conference as well as those who work with LGBTQ teens for inspiring her to come out.
The 26-year-old actress continued, "I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered, and my relationship suffered."
She stated with confidence, "We deserve to experience love fully, equally, without shame and without compromise."
The Canadian actress explained that she's "sick of lying by omission," a part of her speech that drew attention from fellow actress Jane Lynch.
According to Out.com, the "Glee" actress, who has been openly gay for several years, said, "When I was younger, I lied by omission. She should give herself a break and not call it 'lying.'"
She continued, "But I know what it is to feel like you can't be open and honest about your orientation. Good for her!"
During her speech, Page focused on her desire to help LGBTQ youths.
She stated, "To help others have an easier and more hopefully time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility."
The actress articulated her thoughts on Hollywood as well, stating, "It's weird because here I am, an actress, representing - at least in some sense - an industry that places crushing standards on all of us. Not just young people, but everyone. Standards of beauty. Of a good life. Of success. Standards that, I hate to admit, have affected me."
She continued, "You have ideas planted in your head, thoughts you never had before, that tell you how you have to act, how you have to dress and who you have to be. I have been trying to push back, to be authentic, to follow my heart, but it can be hard."
Page has gotten tons of Twitter love since her speech.
Actress Kate Mara tweeted, "Hey @EllenPage ... Be my Valentine? #respect."
Anna Kendrick also tweeted, "Mad mad mad mad mad mad crazy love and praise for @EllenPage today. Congrats to you, your light, talent, and beauty."
Congratulations to Ellen Page.
