Mariska Hargitay is making her directorial debut on her own show "Law & Order: SVU."

According to the Inquisitr, Hargitay will be directing an episode of the long-running NBC police drama. The episode will feature Alec Baldwin and is set to air sometime this spring.

Hargitay has expressed her excitement to finally be directing. The actress tells E! News, "It's a long time coming; I've wanted to do it for a while. There are a lot of things that I've learned and collected. I know how to get performances, I know what buttons to push in people and I've been doing it for a long time. . . Since I've been on SVU, I get more joy, sometimes from helping somebody else with their performance than my own."

The 50-year-old actress continues, "That's when I got the idea. . . It's just this idea of helping to tell the story or even help people get in touch, like how people help me to get to my soul. I'm up for the challenge. . . It feels like a natural progression."

Her decision to bring Alec Baldwin on "Law & Order: SVU" is an interesting one for two reasons.

One, the two have been rumored to have been dating in the past.

Two, and more importantly, this will be Baldwin's return to television after almost a year since his scandal involving a series of controversial statements he made about gays.

The episode will be a much-anticipated directing debut for Mariska as well as a television comeback for Baldwin.

Mariska Hargitay still shows love for "Law & Order: SVU," which has been on the air since 1999.

The actress told the Today show earlier this year, "I think it's been a journey. I think the writing changes now that we have new showrunners. It feels to me like a different show now, which I think is a great thing. After 15 years, the show feels so unbelievably fresh, and that's a gift."

All Mariska Hargitay and Alec Baldwin past dating rumors aside, the show's fans are getting updates on Hargitay's episode via Twitter.

A premiere date has yet to be set for Hargitay's episode.
