As "Orange is the New Black" season 2 spoilers circulate, the author of the hit series, Piper Kerman, testified before the Senate on Tuesday about the use of solitary confinement by the federal Bureau of Prisons.
According to the Huffington Post, Kerman stated that the operations of the Bureau of Prisons deserves a "high level of scrutiny," emphasizing that the agency's operations often aren't looked at as closely as state and local prisons.
The successful author recollects an incident in which she could have potentially been sent to solitary confinement, which is referred to as being held in a Special Housing Unit.
Kerman states to The Huffington Post that she accidently picked up an extra screwdriver that she later tossed into a dumpster in fear of being held in the Special Housing Unit, which she was terrified of.
Kerman explains, "If we want to have prisons and jails that might accomplish actual rehabilitation, they have to be less packed with humanity and less packed with low-level offenders and people who don't really belong in prison."
"Orange is the New Black" season 2 will premiere on Netflix on June 6.
