The Peter Pan movie has been causing a lot of controversy lately.
Although news of Joe Wright and Jason Fuchs' "Pan" should be exciting, a recent casting decision has upset many people.
According to The Guardian, film fans have launched a petition calling for a Native American actor to be cast as the role of Tiger Lily rather than Rooney Mara, a white actress.
Rooney Mara reportedly beat out Lupita Nyong'o, who recently won an Oscar for her role in "12 Years A Slave" as well as Adele Exarchopoulos of France, who gained recognition for her performance in "Blue Is the Warmest Colour."
According to The Daily Beast, the petition states, "The casting choice is particularly shameful for a children's movie. Telling children their role models must be all white is unacceptable."
Film fans are finding the casting choice of the Peter Pan movie especially disgraceful because of the opportunities Wright and Fuch had to go with a talented non-white actress.
Despite the understandable backlash regarding the casting of Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily, it may have come a bit too soon.
Entertainment Weekly reports that we know "very, very little" about Joe Wright and Jason Fuch's upcoming Peter Pan movie.
Wright may have a different take on the role of Tiger Lily.
There are also reports that casting isn't finished and that the film will be very "international" on the whole.
However, those who are staunchly against Rooney Mara being cast as the Native American princess have immediately shut down claims that casting will be "international".
So far, "Pan" will star Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard, Garret Hedlund as a young Hook and Levi Miller as Peter Pan.
The movie is set to hit theaters July 2015.
