‘Walk Of Shame’ Movie 2014: Elizabeth Banks Film Producers Sued For $500K, ‘Walk Of Shame’ Flops In Theaters This Past Week

‘Walk of Shame' the movie was released on just last week on May 2, 2014. The producers of the film have been hit with a lawsuit that claims that the Elizabeth Banks movie was copied from a writer's screenplay according to the Hollywood Reporter.

According to the complaint filed on Wednesday in California federal court, Dan Rosen of Shame on You Productions attempted to get a script called "Darci's Walk of Shame" developed back in 2007. At the time Rosen forwarded a draft of his screenplay to a mutual acquaintance of his and Banks. A week later, Rosen said he had a three hour meeting with Banks and husband, Max Handelman, who produces films through Brownstone Productions. Banks and Handelman liked the screenplay but never got back to Rosen. According to the lawsuit, "Banks and Handelman retained the Screenplay, and never returned any version of it."

The lawsuit from attorney Charles Coate details many supposed similarities between the two works. It reads: "The plot in both works follows a pretty blonde but prudent woman (a 'good girl') in her thirties living in a big city who goes through a break up with her boyfriend, commiserates with her best girlfriends (one of whom is sexual and foulmouthed), gets drunk, spends a 'one-nighter' with a younger man she just met who works as a busboy/bartender, wakes up the next morning at his place, and puts on her inappropriate outfit from the night before."

In response to the lawsuit, a Lakeshore spokesperson tells The Hollywood Reporter, "Lakeshore developed Walk of Shame independently, prior to casting Elizabeth Banks. We believe this claim is meritless."

According to TMZ, Rosen is suing for at least $500k in addition to all the profits from the movie.

Unfortunately for Rosen and for Banks, Focus Features' comedy grossed a depressing $38,000 from 51 locations this past week. The movie cost $15 million to produce and has thus far made a per-screen average of $780 according to Variety.
