Once the much talked-about music reality competition on American television, American Idol gave a huge career rise to a lot of singers today since its debut in 2002, both winners and finalists alike. It produced a huge number of country singers and even an Academy Award-winning actress. But now, with American Idol Season 13 currently making its way to its season finale on May 21, not even all Americans are talking about the top three contestants Alex Preston, Caleb Johnson, and Jena Irene like it's a requirement for a classroom report.
The most recent episode of American Idol Season 13 wherein 23-year old Jessica Meuse of Alabama failed to make it on the Top 3 contestants was aired on May 8. The total number of viewers was reported only up to seven million, which is a far cry from its highest views of 30 million during the past seasons. New York Times reported however, that American Idol Season 13 is not the only American show that suffers in ratings recently. In fact, Glee and even The Voice suffered similar reduction of TV ratings as well.
The thing is that the ratings of American Idol are constantly dropping to 30% over the past two seasons. The current season has been expected to gain an estimated US $3 billion in profit for Fox, and in order to compensate for poor ratings the television company began to offer "make-right" free commercials to advertisers. Still, this strategy didn't help either as the American Idol live tour audience is starting to decrease as well.
As of this time, the company is currently discussing to the show producers if the next season slated for 2015 will eventually be dropped. An executive simply told the press that they wanted to protect the franchise, and that Fox would like to utilize American Idol to launch other things.
