Will Ferrell and Chad Smith agreed to this drum battle as the proceeds will go to their respective charities, Cancer for College and Little Kids Rock.

And since this drum battle will be done for the purpose of charity, it seems like The Lego Movie actor and the LEGIT Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer did take this one seriously. Will Ferrell and Chad Smith wear the exact same jacket, the exact same KISS shirt, the exact same shoes, and the exact same cap! Now it is really hard to tell who's who during the show!

Will Ferrell and Chad Smith eventually started their drum battle. Both of them increased their intensity and complexity of their solos with Ferrell hitting unexpected hits! However, as their drum battle finally closes, Chad Smith's band Red Hot Chili Peppers surprises the audience and played Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper" in seventies' outfit! This is the the band's first late-night TV performance after eight years!

After the much-awaited drum battle, Jimmy Fallon declared Will Ferrell as the winner and presented him with a golden cowbell trophy. Chad Smith previously mentioned that if he loses against Ferrell, he would be his stand-in for his next film!
