True Detective casting rumors have been circulating left and right after the HBO show's successful first season, and numerous names have been attached to the drama.
In the recently announced Emmy nominations, True Detective came out as a contender for the major awards it is eligible for. Add this to HBO Execs hinting that the casting choices will be announced soon, with some very well-known actors most likely to be revealed, and the rumor mill has kicked into high gear once more.
The latest breaking news is that Colin Farrell will be the lead star of True Detective's second season. According to Deadline, the Irish actor is "deep in talks" to play the lead of HBO's critically-lauded series.
Farrell has been known for his acclaimed portrayals of complicated characters in small independent movies such as Seven Psychopaths, The Way Back, and In Bruges. Meanwhile, his big budget projects include Total Recall, and The Winter's Tale.
Another bit of True Detective casting rumor is that Taylor Kitsch, who starred in the football series Friday Night Lights is up for another one of the lead roles. The actor has not had quite the success he had in TV, with failed movie attempts such as John Carter, and Battleship. He also recently starred in the HBO movie, The Normal Heart.
This news comes after show creator Nic Pizzolatto revealed that True Detective's second season will feature four lead characters. Earlier Pizzolatto had stated that the series would feature one male, and one female lead, which led to the Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain rumors.
The show-runner also shared that the new season will be set in California, "Not Los Angeles, but some of the lesser known venues of California and we're going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambience of the place, much like we did with season one," Pizzolatto has been quoted as saying.
