After the wildly successful debut of Ed Sheeran's '+'album, this second offering saw another very good run in the market. The 'X'sold almost 100,000 copies in the first 48 hours it hit the market.
And at the mid-week point since its release, the album's sales nearly matches the entire first week sales of his first album back in 2011 -- which sold 102,000 copies in less than a week.
Aside from the excellent songs on offer from the English singer-songwriter, much talk has been about the album cover -- a simple, mysterious large black letter X with a plain green background. But Sheeran is quick to point out that the album cover was actually suppose to be temporary. The 23-year-old had originally wanted a more complicated design to grace his album cover. But as time went by, the album cover grew on him and he decided to make it the official cover.
In an interview with host Ryan Seacrest, Sheeran shared, "The holding cover for iTunes that the label had was the green with the black X, and it was only meant to go up until the real artwork was finished, and I just really liked it. It was just simple, effective, stood out. People know what it is."
Aside from his excellent music and successful career, the singer is known to count some pretty well-known musicians as his pals. But lest people think that it's his success that has gotten him tight with his famous friends, Sheeran shares that he knew most of them before they made it big.
Take for example, One Direction's Harry Styles. Sheeran says they were hanging out even before their explosion into the music world. "It blew up for One Direction in the September of 2011 and my single came out in the June, so we had five months of hanging out in normality before it exploded," says Sheeran. "We are both anchors for each other," he says.
As for his well-publicized relationship with Taylor Swift, Sheeran shares that he recently introduced his girlfriend Athina Andrelos to the singer, and "she approved."
