Scarlett Johansson film Lucy beats Hercules of Dwyne Johnson last weekend!

Scarlett Johansson' action film Lucy has been released on July 25, 2014 in the US. During its first weekend, the action film garnered $38 million, while Hercules starred by Dwyne Johnson, which film was also released on the same date, only garnered $10 million, according to Variety.

Additionally, the early estimation of Universal Pictures during July 25, 2014 release, which was Friday, on Lucy was  $14 million to $15 million including the Thursday screenings ( $2.7 million from 2,386)

In the latest movie of Johansson, she played a woman who accidentally turned superhuman and seeking revenge. The actress has already established herself as an action star as she played the role of Black Widow in the Marvel movies. 


The film is R-rated thriller and directed by Luc Besson. It was reported that it carried a $40 million budget from Besson's EuropaCorp.

According to the same source, Black Widow actress' latest movie leads the weekend's ticket sales on online ticket service Fandango and is outselling previous action thrillers "Oblivion," "Elysium" and "Edge of Tomorrow" at the same point in the sales cycle.

Meanwhile, Johnson's "Hercules" earnings ranged from $10 million to $11 million, including $2.1 million for late Thursday screenings at 2,053 theaters. 


Johnson's latest movie was produced by Paramount and MGM. It was reported that it carries $100 million production budget. Brett Ratner directed the movie, but aside from this movie, he also directed the origin story of the Son of Zeus and the strongest man on Earth, based on the Radical Comics book by Steve Moore.
