According to Anime.MMGN, a sequel to Sword Art Online has been announced following the ending of Sword Art Online: Extra Edition, which is a special OVA (Original Video Animation) episode that was aired just before the new years.

Sword Art Online II is expected to kick off with a brand new game. It said that Kirito joins and it's called Gun Gale Online (GGO).

Designed by an American company called Zakar, GGO's primary choice of weapons are none other than Guns, making it a bit different from SAO and ALfeim which traditionally used Swords and magic as a mean of combat.

According to Inquistr, the season 2 of Sword Art Online with Gun Gale focuses on the Phantom Bullet story arc, which is an adaptation of volumes five and six of Reki Kawahara's original light novels.

SAO Phantom Bullet will be based upon the light novels. According to Inquistr, new female character named Sinon will join Kirito in GGO to help unravel a series of mysterious deaths that also happening in the real world.
