Eddie Alvarez's UFC signing is considered as a form of redemption for the former Bellator FC lightweight champion as Dana White himself is pleased with "The Silent Assassin's" addition to the company's roster.
Eddie Alvarez's UFC deal was made final a week ago, after Bellator FC president Scott Coker granted his former fighter's release after being with the company since its debut in 2009.
"We granted Eddie his unconditional release this morning," Coker told ESPN.com. "Eddie is free to explore the free-agent market. We wish him the best in the future."
Dana White broke the news about Eddie Alvarez's UFC signing through his personal Twitter account, adding that "The Silent Assassin" would be facing another top contender at the lightweight division, Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone at UFC 178 next month.
"Congrats @Ealvarezfight you are finally a UFC fighter!!! Cerrone vs Alvarez #UFC178 #Vegas," White wrote.
Eddie Alvarez's UFC signing has also shed some light on the former Bellator FC champion's unpleasant experience with the company. While no details were specified, Alvarez still expressed his gratitude towards the promotion company he has fought under for five years as one of its pioneer competitors.
"This was a long process but it's a decision that everyone seems happy with," Alvarez explained. "I think it's important to say that I am genuinely thankful for the time at Bellator. I know that sounds a little crazy given everything I went through, but I've fought there since 2009 and have been involved in some really amazing fights."
Dana White sympathized with Alvarez's former situation, adding that his UFC signing is a form of redemption.
"That kid got screwed around a lot over the last couple of years," White said. "The most important thing that was taken away from this kid was time, because as a professional athlete that is the only thing you have."
This is why the UFC president was pleased about Eddie Alvarez's UFC signing, and the opportunity to fight at mixed martial arts' biggest stage.
"I'm happy for him," White continued. "He's finally here, he's getting the opportunity to fight a guy like 'Cowboy' who's on an unbelievable roll. Win, lose, or draw, he's here in the UFC now and I'm happy for him."
