The dark graphic novel rendition of "Hansel and Gretel" by Neil Gaiman is set to hit cinemas in the not so distant future. Making this a film reality worth looking forward to is the famous author's collaboration with acclaimed director Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey and Juliet Blake.

According to Cinema Blend, Juliet Blake was responsible for purchasing the movie rights for "Hansel and Gretel" by Neil Gaiman. She made it possible via her production company Four Chickens For A Fiver. This is not the first time she will be working with "E.T." director Steven Spielberg or Oprah Winfrey. For his part, Neil Gaiman is also no newbie in terms of having his literary works adapted to the big screen.

The version of "Hansel and Gretel" by Neil Gaiman is remotely different compared to the "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" action-adventure flick. Based on the observation of Screenrant, the film adaptation of Neil Gaiman's version of the fairy tale will more likely be highly thematic with a seriously dark tone.

The site went on to surmise that Gaiman's take on the story could be more horrifying than that of the Brothers Grimm. The author differentiated his and Mattoti's (the illustrator of his book) version by stating that it is more relevant to the present. The author even went on to describe his work as something that reminds us how fragile civilization can be, and that it delves into the subjects of family and hunger, reported Screenrant.

Although Gaiman's description worked to pique various audiences' interest, it hardly hinted anything about how the movie will turn out once filming is done. Although much can be expected with Steven Spielberg now on board, everyone remains clueless about how the author's imagination will materialize on the big screen.

Nonetheless, with the "Hansel and Gretel by Neil Gaiman slated for film release soon, one thing is for sure: His Hollywood fame is growing, reported Cinema Blend.
