"Blue Bloods" season 5 news expose the controversy involving Chief Frank Reagan's (Tom Selleck) uninhibited display of anti-Catholic views. Criticisms from Catholics rained after Chief Reagan opined that when it came to gay issues, the church was "behind the times."

Breit Bart broke this "Blue Bloods" season 5 news surrounding the "Burning Bridges" episode aired on CBS last October 10. The scene in question primarily involved Tom Selleck's character Chief Frank Reagan of the New York Police. He blurted out his anti-Catholic sentiment while giving his response to the media concerning the controversial case of a gay police officer who bore witness to a gay bashing crime.

Chief Reagan's uncharacteristic remark shocked Catholic viewers who had come to love the straight-laced, devoted Catholic officer. According to Reagan's profile on Hub Pages, he has always stayed true to his job of upholding the law.

Honest and adamant about doing what is right, regardless of the situation, he sometimes comes across as somewhat indifferent to the issues confronting him. However, as proven repeatedly on the show, he stays hell-bent on finding the best solutions to whatever problems beset him and his subordinates, while the latter are busy with their respective jobs.

Is Chief Reagan's liberal outlook on gay issues a matter that the show's targeted audience can take lightly?

Donna Hue of the Catholic League could only shake his head in disagreement, as his organization received numerous complaints about this episode, reported Breit Bart. Based on their account, Donnahue was wondering if CBS had done it on purpose or not.

The surprising inclusion of the liberal plotline could hurt the 4-year-long crime drama's popularity, based on Donnahue's assessment - and needless to mention, shake their solid fan base in the process. However, neither he nor anyone could draw any conclusion for now.

His exact quote on this matter, which is included in the Catholic League press release featured by Breit Bart, was:

"Is CBS committing suicide? The audience for Blue Bloods has been carefully cultivated, so the price tag for alienating its base is high. Time will tell."

As of this writing, CBS has not yet released any statement on this issue. Fans would have to wait until the next "Blue Bloods" season 5 news for updates.
