Taylor Swift as New York ambassador? Does this possibly echo Swift's song from her "1989" album, "Welcome to New York"?

The Tennesean reported that news of Taylor Swift as New York ambassador possibly pushing through has been making lots of headlines recently.

However, along with the news, The Tennesean also reported that there are a many critics who are raising eyebrows on the thought of having Taylor Swift as New York ambassador.

Some of the reported criticisms against the idea were the following:

-A Village Voice writer-

"A latte is not like a slice of pizza, or a bagel,"

-Jumaane D. Williams, a council man from Brooklyn City-

"Of all the past/present talent and celebrities that are actually native NY'ers explain again why #TaylorSwift is our ambassador?"

The Daily News reportedly thought that the idea of Swift representing New York was "absurd."

However, Chris Heywood, a NYC & Co. spokesman, did not hide his preference for Swift to represent the Big Apple to the world.

In a phone interview, Heywood announced his reasons for picking Swift for the title:

"She is the No. 1 global pop star in the world right now,"

"She is a new New Yorker. She came to New York last spring. This is a new approach, all about the wonderment and excitement you have when you first come to New York City. To have this enthusiasm from a global superstar, who has given us her image and influence to promote New York City, is a gift. We are so grateful."
