Bae Doona's talent and distinctive good looks have charmed international film-goers for a decade. Now her charms have also inspired the creative minds behind the Louis Vuitton French fashion brand.
On Nov. 10, it was announced that the 35-year-old actress has been recruited to represent the brand's 2015 spring and summer advertising campaigns.
The campaign will be photographed by famous French photographer Patrick Demarchelier. Some of the first shots show the 35-year-old actress wearing a leather jacket and wide velour pants.
Bae Doona is the first Asian actress to represent the luxury brand. And by participating in the campaign she joins an international club of superstars. Previous Louis Vuitton models include actresses Miranda Kerr, Michelle Williams and Nicole Kidman, as well as singer Keith Urban.
It's not the first time that Bae Doona has modeled. She began her career when she was scouted by a modeling agency at age 16. She transitioned into acting the next year.
Bae Doona first became known outside Korea for playing political activist Cha Young Mi in "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance." Then she played archer Park Nam Joo in Bong Joon Ho's 2006 horror film "The Host." The film earned its director and stars international attention. She played an inflatable sex doll-come-to-life in the Japanese film "Air Doll," before playing the clone Sonmi~451 in "Cloud Atlas."
Last year she appeared in the k-movie "Girl At My Door." She was a police officer investigting a case of child abuse. The film was shown at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.
The actress is known for her unique personal sense of style. She looks distinctively glamorous whether she is spotted at the airport or she is walking down the red carpet at film premieres. She will have plenty of opportunities for airport fashion in the next year. Not only will she visit Paris for photo shoots but her next acting project involves shoots at international locations.
Bae Doona is currently working on her third project with the Wachowski siblings. She will star in "Sense8," an American science fiction television series produced by Netflix. The series will be filmed in locations such as Iceland and Kenya and has already filmed scenes in Seoul. The series also features Korean actors Ma Dong Suk, Lee Gyung Young and Myung Gye Nam. In "Sense8" Bae Doona Plays one of eight strangers who share a violent vision and are telepathically connected.
