Samsung Galaxy s5 vs. LG G3: Which smartphone has more powerful specs? Read the head-to-head comparison.

LG G3 operating system has been updated from Android 4.4.2 to Android 5.0. LG Electronics has started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop for LG G3 owners in Korea. It will not take long before other regions follow. Galaxy s5 may soon follow as reports had it that "the first builds of Android 5.0 Lollipop for the Galaxy S5 will arrive in December".

Both handsets are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipsets (G3 has the 8974-AC version while s5 has the MSM8974-AC). Because they have similar system chip, it follows that they have identical processor - quad core, 2500 MHz, Krait 400 - and graphics processor - Adreno 330.

G3, however, stands out when it comes to system memory as it carries 3072MB RAM while s5 holds 2048MB RAM. Both smartphones have 32GB built-in storage, and the same specs in storage expansion - microSD, microSDHC, microSDXC up to 128 GB.

Galaxy s5 wins in rear camera quality with 16 megapixels, compared to G3's 13 megapixels. However, G3 has dual LED flash while s5 has one.

LG G3 has these as camera features: Back-illuminated sensor (BSI), Autofocus, Touch to focus, Optical image stabilization, face detection, smile detection, ISO control, burst mode, geo tagging, High Dynamic Range mode (HDR), panorama, and voice activation. But s5 has more: autofocus, phase detection autofocus, touch to focus, manual focus, digital image stabilization, face detection, exposure compensation, ISO control, white balance presets, burst mode, digital zoom, geo tagging, High Dynamic Range mode (HDR), night mode, scenes, effects, self-timer, and voice activation.

Again, they are identical in front-facing camera with 2.1 megapixels.

LG G3 has bigger screen - 5.5 inches - than s5 - 5.1 inches. It is also higher in display resolution - 1440 x 2560 pixels, as against s5's 1080 x 1920 pixels. It follows that G3 has more pixel density - 538ppi - than s5's 432ppi.
