Many women were thrilled when they found out that Cristiano Ronaldo is single again. One of the hottest football players in the world recently dumped his longtime girlfriend, which means he is available in the market again.

According to OK! magazine, Portuguese news site Correio da Manha confirmed the reports that the 29-year old footballer dumped supermodel Irina Shayk because of his mother. The Real Madrid superstar has been in relationship with the 29-year old Russian model since 2010.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo decided to call it quits when his family got involved in their fight. A source told the website, "Cristiano wanted to surprise his mum and as he spent Christmas with Irina in Dubai, he had planned to be with his mum on her birthday, but Irina didn't want to go."

The insider added, "They had such a big row that he ended up spending New Years Eve alone with his son." The footballer even posted a photo of himself together with his son Cristinano Ronaldo Jr. on Twitter as he greeted everyone a Happy New Year.

Apart from refusing to attend Dolores Ronaldo's birthday party, Cristiano's girlfriend even said bad things about his mom. The website reported, "Irina mouthed off about Dolores and Ronaldo took sides with him mum." They added, "Dolores thinks Irina wasn't the right woman for Ronaldo's son."

We all know how close the Portuguese footballer is to his family and there were reports that Irina Shayk's relationship with his mom Dolores and sisters Katia and Elam was filled with tension. A source told Mirror, "Dolores wanted someone who would assume the role of mum for Cristiano Jr." The insider added, "That was not a priority for Irina."

Just recently, the Sports Illustrated model unfollowed the striker on Twitter which started out the rumors that they already split up. Irina Shayk also posted a photo of her new love on Facebook and was seen celebrating her birthday on her own.

The model wasn't also present at the Fifa Ballon d'Or ceremony where the football superstar was named best player in the world for the third time. He was joined on stage by his mother and son.
