Fresh from his Oscar success, "The Theory of Everything" star Eddie Redmayne find himself being reminded of his roots and his ties with Prince William, whom he played Rugby with at prestigious Eton College.

"He was a pal at school, but I haven't seen him since school and no - no messages," he told Loaded, per Daily Mail, in an interview.

"We were on the same Colts B team in 1997. I always felt slightly sorry for Will because everyone wanted to tackle the future King of England. He took all the hits," he said.

"I'm pretty sure Will was more intimidating than I was. I don't think I intimidated anyone in my life. I haven't seen him since school, but he was a lovely man," recounted Eddie Redmayne, who won Best Actor for his portrayal of physicist Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything."

The 33-year-old actor counts himself as "very lucky" for being in the position that he is now.

"I've been working like Ben (Benedict Cumberbatch) for 10 or 12 years now and just keep putting one foot in front of the other and people hopefully enjoy your work and keep hiring you," he said. "I get to do the thing that I dream of and that is rare I think."

Hello Magazine said that Eddie Redmayne and Prince William attended the same year at Eton in Berkshire, known for educating the world's elite. Prince Harry also attended the same school.

Both Eddie Redmayne and Prince William were also elected to The Eton Society, a prestige given only to the most popular senior students.

"While Eddie went on to study history of art at Cambridge - opting for the same degree as William's wife the Duchess of Cambridge - William took up geography at St Andrews," said the article.

Now, with his oscar win for "The Theory of Everything," Eddie Redmayne is becoming a household name, much like his pal, Prince William.
