Looks like a good for hip-hop recording artist Kendrick Lamar as he replaced Sam Smith At the top of the U.K. albums chart.

Following his second big label album, "To Pimp A Butterfly" landing on iTunes on Sunday, March 15, a week in advance of its scheduled released (March 23), Kendrick Lamar scored his first British chart-topper pushing Smith's "In the Lonely Hour" into second place.

According to The Celebrity Cafe, "To Pimp A Butterfly" was closely competing with Sam Smith's album. It only out sold it by 572 units. With his latest hit, "To Pimp A Butterfly" listened to over an impressive 9.6 million times, Lamar broke the record for most streaming of an album in a day on Spotify. Michael Buble held the record earlier with a 9.5 million streams thanks to his Christmas album.

Mark Knopfler's solo project Tracker is at three while Van Morrison's "Duets: Reworking The Catalogue" earned the fifth spot, just behind Ed Sheeran's "X," ContactMusic noted.

The Guardian called Lamar's new album ambitious and a "overwhelming reflection of its multifaceted complexity."

On Saturday, March 21 the TDE rapper spent time with fans in Compton where he hosted an album signing for his latest hit, "To Pimp A Butterfly."

According to ABC7, thousands of fans lined up outside the Best Buy in Compton to meet Lamar and have their copies of "To Pimp A Butterfly," signed.

"It feels good to be back in my city," the rapper said. Lamar added that he felt good to see kids still motivated by his music and by his dreams and aspirations.

Lamar thanked his fans for believing in him since day one, HipHopDX reported. The rapper admitted he has been doing his thing on the underground scene for a very long time, proud to be putting out any albums. The Compton rhymer stated that as long as his fans believe in him and him in them, he will continue to do this music.

With his John Legend collaboration, "Lay Me Down," Smith retained the singles chart title. The duo recorded the album in aid of British charity Comic Relief.

Rihanna's "FourFiveSeconds " hit in collaboration with Kanye West and Paul McCartney, took the number three spot.
