In a bid to address concerns of users who want to try out certain apps but are not willing to share any information about them, Facebook has introduced the Anonymous Login feature.
This new feature gives users a greater choice over what information is shared with apps, as well as websites they log into using their Facebook ID. Users can still opt to share any additional information, if they prefer, at a later stage.
According to ComputerWorld, a new version of Facebook login that is slated to roll-out this week will offer users with a prompt to "Edit the info you provide." Clicking that will enable users to either grant or deny access to various types of information.
In addition, the login now also highlights who will see content posted by the app on Facebook, as far as apps that request the ability to do so are concerned.
In 2014, the social networking giant announced that it would be implementing a new API this spring, which lets the user and not the developer decide what sorts of private information each app is privy to, Engadget noted.
For example, if a user wants to tell 'Groupme' his/her birthday and location, it can be easily done without giving 'Untappd' access to the user's contacts.
Moreover, Facebook is changing its software development kit so that third-party developers can ask permission to access a list of the person's friends who also use the app, but not information related to the friends including their likes, photos and birthdays.
Other improvements announced at the f8 developers' conference include a redesigned App Control Panel, which is a central place for people to see and manage the apps they use, Facebook noted in its blog.
Facebook Anonymous Login is currently being tested with a few developers, and in the coming months, the social networking giant plans to extend it to more developers.
The new Login is slated to be rolled out in the next few months, and the update app control panel will be available in the coming weeks.
