After months of speculation, “Castle” fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief as season 8 has just been renewed. Stana Katic has officially signed another contact to return to the ABC series and reprise her role as Kate Beckett.

As reported by Christian Today, ABC president Paul Lee has given the green light to the premiere of "Castle" season 8 now that Stana Katic has renewed her contract. It has long been rumored that the crime drama could soon be cancelled because of several changes in production. It did not help that its main actors, Stana Katic (Kate Beckett) and Nathan Fillion (Richard Castle) did not immediately sign a new contract.

Fillion was the first to announce that he will be returning to the series. This, however, was not enough to appease the fans given that Castle and Beckett's relationship on the show has been a major driving force for it moving forward. Without Katic, several reports speculate that fans of the "Castle" might feel uneasy and ABC may be forced to put the show on the chopping block.

The actress took to Twitter for the highly anticipated announcement. She wrote:

"I am so pleased to announce that, after taking with our new show runners, Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley (both of whom I have had the pleasure of working with on the show before). I am excited about the future plans for Beckett and delighted to be returning for a Season 8 of 'Castle.'"

Stana Katic added that fans can definitely look forward to more exciting plot twists in the coming season.

As Yibada pointed out, Stana Katic's tweet meant that her contract was only for a year of production. This could mean that if "Castle" were to be renewed for season 9, there will be negotiations with the show producers once again.

In an interview with TV Line, STana Katic explained that she did not want "Castle" to "overstay its welcome."

"For me it's about art over finance, and as long as we're creating something that is compelling and that has somewhere to go, then we're good to go. And when we find that we're not, when we don't have anywhere else to go, then it's time for everyone to pack up and move onto the next thing," she said.

"Castle" season 8 returns to ABC Mondays at 10 p.m. this fall.
