ZOMBIE MAMMA'S DRAMA REVIEW: Producer Episodes 3-4
With the first two introductory episodes out of the way, it's time to dig into the meat of this story and I have to say, I'm pleased with the way things are shaping up. Our undefined geometrical love shape is slowly morphing into a more clearly defined shape as the roles our main characters are going to take are also becoming more clearly defined. Though it's still too early to make any safe assumptions, it's not too early to enjoy the wit and humor of this quirky and rather enjoyable drama.
Picking up where we left off last week, Seung Chan happened upon Ye Jin and Joon Mo as they arrived home and the fact that these two were living together didn't sit well with the noble Seung Chan. Knowing his beloved Hye Joo was being two-timed by the likes of Joon Mo, Seung Chan decided to rise to defend his love's honor by stealing Ye Jin and Joon Mo's milk. Yes, Seung Chan is the king of petty retribution. Last week it was hanging trash on Joon Mo's car, this week it's stealing his milk and I'm not gonna lie, every time Seung Chan acts out against his bosses, I laugh. I love this childish side of Seung Chan, probably because I can understand where he's coming from. He wants to make his "enemies" suffer but he's not really capable of doing anything really malicious because he's too softhearted. While this trait makes it difficult for him to exact any real revenge for the sake of his lady love, it makes him incredibly lovable which is something both Ye Jin and Cindy are beginning to realize. Woohoo!
There's nothing I love better than the beginnings of a love... triangle? square? zig-zag? Okay, so maybe the shape of this love thing isn't quite so clearly defined yet but we're getting closer and that's what makes me happy. What we do know is that Hye Joo is really no longer in the picture. After her breakup with Joon Mo, Hye Joo takes a break from work and writes off PDs forever which doesn't mean Seung Chan isn't going to pine over her for a while but it does mean that she's no longer a real factor in this story. With Hye Joo out of the picture, we now have room for Ye Jin and Cindy to start sorting out their feelings and what we've learned so far is nothing we didn't already know: Ye Jin has a thing for Joon Mo, Joon Mo has a thing for no one, Cindy has a thing for herself and Seung Chan, having a thing for an absent Hye Joo, is going to catch the eyes of both Ye Jin and Cindy. Why? Because Seung Chan isn't trying to impress either of these women. He's simply being the pure, sweet, innocent, chivalrous, handsome self he always is and those traits are going to attract all the ladies to him because none of these poor women have anyone half as noble around them in their daily lives. Let's face it, it's hard to resist noticing a handsome sweetheart when he stops to tie your shoe, or protect you from the rain or carry a box up the stairs because he knows you hurt your wrist. The question is, which of these woman is going to capture Seung Chan's heart?
Beyond the romance, this story is developing nicely. Seung Chan is beginning to find his place among the 2 Days, 1 Night team and though he may not feel completely comfortable in his new position yet, I think the rest of his team is quickly coming to appreciate his value. Despite his position as the rookie, no one is going to deny that it was Seung Chan's idea to develop the show around romance and his connection with Cindy that saved them all. Of course that doesn't mean he gets treated any differently than any other rookie but at least he's earned their respect. Between that and the fact that he confronted Ye Jin and Joon Mo about their living situation, Seung Chan's life should start to get a little bit easier. Then again... Ye Jin has a funny way of making Seung Chan's life rather miserable, even when she's trying to suck up to him in the hopes he'll keep her and Joon Mo's secret. I'm really kinda wondering in what world Ye Jin lives in because in my world, you don't threaten people when you ask them for a favor. Actually, there's a lot I'm wondering about Ye Jin at the moment. Like how she expects to run a show when she treats her guests with the same condescension as she treats her team. Doesn't she know the entire world isn't just going to bow down to her greatness? I mean honestly, she's not that great of a person. She's rude and mean and manipulative and conceited and basically she has a whole lot of issues she needs to deal with if she ever wants to be able to approach a group of co-workers without them looking like they want to run away. Then again, maybe she likes being alone and miserable but I don't think that's the case. I'm pretty sure it's going to take someone of Seung Chan's caliber to help set her straight. Good thing he's lives right next door!
To be fair, Ye Jin isn't the only person with issues that need working through. Cindy has a whole slew of issues she needs to deal with and most of them stem from the fact her head is roughly the size of an elephant. Once again I place all my hope for Cindy's reformation in Seung Chan as he's the only person around her with any sort of grounding in reality. I suppose it's possible Cindy could learn a few things from her fellow 2 Days, 1 Night cast members (who all had me squealing when they first made their appearance) but that would require interacting with them and at this point, that just hasn't happened. Not a single cast member is interested in helping Cindy which honestly is fine because she wouldn't accept their help anyway. She's taken on this role with the belief she can change her image all on her own and she's determined to do so. What she doesn't realize is that this undertaking is going to require help from others. I'm really looking forward to watching Cindy's character develop, mostly because I want to see her change more than anyone. She's spent so many years trapped in this idol bubble and she really needs someone like Seung Chang to come along and pop that nonsensical bubble and help her see that this world has so much more to offer, if she'd just dare to look past the end of her own nose.
But enough of my rambling, it's time for you to tell me what you thought of these two episodes. Is this show starting to grow on you yet?
