The upcoming series "Gu Family Book" promises fun scenes for every kind of drama lover: A historical setting with great costumes, some martial arts and archery action, plenty of fantasy and a fair share of romance. That's because it's a historical drama about a mythical creature, half man and half gumiho (nine-tailed fox), who wants to become human.

While the character, Choi Kang Chi, played by Lee Seung Gi, can't become completely human, he does want to become more human and live an honorable life.

The story starts when human Yoon Seo Hwa, played by Lee Yeon Hee, falls in love with the guardian god of the Jiri Mountains, Gu Wal Ryung, played by Choi Jin Hyuk. A threat by their enemies forces Seo Hwa to run with her son. When she hears that Wal Ryung has disappeared, she places her son in a basket and sends him down the river. The child is discovered and raised by the Choi family.

When Kang Chi grows up, he meets and goes on adventures with Dam Yeo Wool, played by Bae Suzy. She's a master of martial arts and archery, who never leaves home without her sword and prefers to dress as a boy. They start out as comrades.

Kang Chi's first love is the more traditional Park Chung Lee, played by Lee Yubi. Her older brother played by Yoo Yeon Seok, is a cynical scholar who loves Dam Yeo Wool. And then there is Gon, played by Sung Joon, who is Yeo Wool's bodyguard, and also loves her. Of course, as is always the case in a drama, when more than one person loves a character, complications will follow.

The role of Dam Yeo Wool will be Suzy's first appearance in a historical drama but don't expect her to be a slacker in the action department. Despite her previous lack of experience, producer Park Tae Young says viewers should "expect a lot from Suzy and her action scenes."

The singer, dancer and actress is best known for playing Go Hye Mi in the series "Dream High" and Jang Ma Ri in "Big," and also appearing in the movie, "Architecture 101." Kpop fans known her as a member of the group miss A.

Singer and actor Lee Seung Gi is also a popular actor, having appeared in "Brilliant Legacy" and "The King 2 Hearts." He is no stranger to the world of gumihos (nine-tailed foxes) having also appeared as the lead in "My Girlfriend is A Nine Tailed Fox." His most recent album, Time for Love was released in 2011.

The MBC series begins April 8 on MBC. It is directed by Shin Woo Chul, who previously directed "A Gentleman's Dignity" and "Secret Garden," and is written by Kang Eun Young.
