Frank Mir Compares Conor McGregor To Brock Lesnar; Says 'The Notorious' Is Not A Needle Mover As 'The Beast Incarnate'

Conor McGregor may have established himself as one of the UFC's most notorious stars after seizing the interim featherweight title with a win over Chad Mendes, however Frank Mir is not quite impressed and claims Conor McGregor is no Brock Lesnar.

While promoting his upcoming bout at UFC Fight Night 71 on July 15, Frank Mir who takes on Todd Duffee in the main event, Frank Mir noted that McGregor doesn't have the drawing power that Brock Lesnar had as heavy weight champion.

The two-time UFC heavyweight champion was promoting the bout on FOX Sports when the topic changed to "The Notorious" who is the promotion's newest interim champion. Despite the fact that Dana White claimed that UFC 189 "broke all the records,' Mir isn't quite impressed with McGregor.

"Everybody talks right now about Conor McGregor, how big Conor McGregor is. I don't think any of Conor McGregor's pay-per-views have outsold what Brock Lesnar's pay-per-views were up to this point," Mir said.

"This past weekend might do so, but as of now every time Brock stepped into the arena, he's a fan favorite," he added.

Though Mir acknowledged how much of a star McGregor is in Ireland, however still thinks that UFC 189 was nowhere near as big of a card as UFC 100, the event in which Brock knocked him out in the headline bout, SportsJOE noted.

"People just go nuts over the guy," Mir said.

It's always better to be remembered than forgotten and that just goes to show you the power that Brock Lesnar has. People still talk about UFC 100 to this day."

He continued, "That's still the bar that everybody compares events to. Even this last weekend with Conor McGregor, who has a whole country behind him and I don't think anybody's had foreigners travel to a fight like he does, and still we compare it to UFC 100."

Back in 2009 UFC 100, headlined by Mir and Lesnar shattered box office records with 1.6 million pay-per-view buys. Six years after the event, Dana White believes UFC 189 was bigger than UFC 100.

Following his win over Chad Mendes at UFC 189 "The Notorious" will now host the next series of The Ultimate Fighter (Team USA vs. Europe) with Team Alpha Male leader, Urijah Faber, BloodyElbow noted.

The new series is slated to begin on Sept. 9, and will conclude with the two coaches fighting each other; instead, McGregor's original championship bout with Jose Aldo will go ahead with even more extensive publicity injected into it.

Frank Mir's main event brawl with Todd Duffee will take place at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California. Brock Lesnar, on the other hand is all set to face Seth Rollins to retain his WWE World Heavyweight Championship title at WWE Battleground 2015.
