The KBS drama "You're the Best Lee Soon Shin" has been described as something that lacks attention to minuscule details.
In the beginning, Lee Soon Shin (IU) appears as a hopeless girl in her 20s who continuously fails in her attempt to get a job. Out of nowhere, she meets Shin Joon Ho (Jo Jung Suk), the CEO of a famous entertainment company who offers her a contract that will change her life completely.
Without any special talent, Lee Soon Shin is always in her sisters' shadows. The drama is aiming to portray a story of a girl who overcomes the obstacles in her life to become an incredible top star. At the beginning stage of this process, the drama failed to portray the emotions of the characters very well, which was critiqued by many viewers.
For example, Lee Soon Shin had been portrayed as someone who had been brought up by Kim Jung Ae (Go Doo Shim) as if she was her real daughter. Kim Jung Ae brought her up with more love than her real two daughters. However, when she feels betrayed by Lee Soon Shin after seeing her with her biological mom, the change in her attitude shocked everybody.
After her husband's death, Kim Jung Ae had found out that Lee Soon Shin is the daughter of her husband's first love. Kim Jung Ae had believed that Lee Soon Shin was just a stranger's baby all these years but when she finds out that she is the daughter of a woman her husband used to love, she gets confused about where to channel her anger.
Regardless, Kim Jung Ae's decision to kick Lee Soon Shin out of the house after slapping her seemed too drastic. Was it really necessary?
One impressive thing is that actress Go Doo Shim is steady and professional regardless of the unstable character she needs to portray.
The anger Kim Jung Ae takes out on Lee Soon Shin may have come from her jealousy for the mother and daughter relationship and not the relationship her dead husband had with Lee Soon Shin's mother.
IU's ability to portray Lee Soon Shin's emotions must not be ignored. When Lee Soon Shin begs her mom to continue her training to become a celebrity, it seems like a real situation IU is experiencing. Even though IU became a superstar a long time ago, Lee Soon Shin's passion to become a celebrity may have been portrayed by IU's memories of her own
Even though IU does not have a lot of experience acting, she is already receiving an incredible amount of praise from the viewers and the critics. The improvement in her acting from the first episode can clearly be seen. Her future in acting poses to be very bright since she is obviously a very fast learner.
Regardless of the weaknesses in the storyline, actors like IU and Go Doo Shim are making "You're the Best Lee Soon Shin" one of the most popular dramas to watch.
