Serena Williams and Venus Williams displayed great tennis on Tuesday night at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, reported NY Times. In an all-out match, the William girls put a show for the audience at Flushing, New York on the night of the women's quarter finals at the United States Open.

Venus Williams, elder of the two sisters hit some hard shots and swung for the lines. She even won the second set in a hurry but Serena shot back to win the match equivocally in three sets 6-2, 1-6 and 6-3. This brings Serena Williams closer to the Grand Slam victory. She will not face the unseeded Italian player Roberta Vinci. Roberta is known for her doubles prowess and will be playing her first Grand Slam singles semi-final, said the NY Times.

Venus came out swinging but her younger sister made the breakthrough at 3-2, and would hit 15 winners and just two errors in a class A opening set. Serena concluded the match with 35 winners, 22 unforced errors and tallied 12 aces to Venus' eight stated Sports Illustrated.

Serena Williams now inched closer to her Grand Slam victory and her next match is going to be more fun than stress. Serena has already bagged a few Grand Slams in her kitty but winning them all in the same season has elevated the anticipation of the tennis world, said BBC. So far only Steffi Graph, Margaret Court, and Maureen Connolly are the only women to win all four major Grand Slams in one season.

The Williams' sisters have played 26 matches against each other earlier but this 27th one was eagerly awaited. As 23,000 spectators waited to take their seats, presidential candidate Donald Trump and Tennis legend John McEnroe were amongst those who marked their celebrity presence. When the match ended both sisters met at the net for a hug, with a smiling Venus wrapping both arms around Serena, said CBC Sports.
