Kpopstarz is having a poll for the kpop artists that have been the most influential globally during the first half of 2013, but kdrama fans take note. It’s not just about the music. Since there are so many idols playing parts in kdramas these days, that poll probably includes some of your favorite actors too. So, you may want to consider voting for their group.
Appearing in kdramas has certainly helped many kpop idols and groups expand their influence around the world. And there is a lot of cross-over. Music fans watch the dramas to see their favorite stars and some drama fans are introduced to kpop through the dramas.
Idols-turned actors delivered some of this year’s most memorable performances. There was JYJ’s Park Yoo Chun as Han Jung Woo in “Missing You” and miss A’s Suzy as Dam Yeo Wool in “Gu Family Book.”
There were also a few smaller memorable roles. For example, Kara’s Han Seungyeon just finished playing Maid Choi in “Jang Ok Jung.” ZE:A’s Hyungsik earned praise for his role as the young Lee Jin Wook in “Nine: Nine Time Travels.” A Pink’s Eun Ji played Moon Hee Sun, Jo In Sung’s friend, in “That Winter The Wind Blows.”
A few more idols-turned actors are currently playing roles in existing dramas. And others are cast in upcoming dramas.
Here’s a list of some of the stars in current dramas.
CNBlue’s Lee Jung Shin plays a warrior in “The Blade and the Petal.”
Girls Generation’s Choi Sooyoung appears as a dating agency employee in “Dating Agency: Cyrano”
SHINee’s Lee Taemin made a guest appearance as a romantically-challenged client on “Dating Agency: Cyrano.”
Kara’s Park Gyuri pretends to be a boy and learns to be a nail artist in “Nail Shop Paris.”
Beast’s Yoon Joon Hyung plays a teen idol with a monstrous temper on “Monstar.”
And there are more idol-turned actor treats in store. As far as upcoming dramas go, CNBlue’s Lee Jong Hyun will appear in “The Heirs.”
Kara’s Goo Hara is working on a pilot for “I’m Your Substitute Angel.”
And there’s talk that SHINee’s Onew will appear in the drama, “Pure Love.”
