X Factor USA 2013: Is Simon Cowell Leaving to Save Budget? Fox Show Continues to Disappoint in Ratings (Photo/Video)
Rumors of X Factor USA judge Simon Cowell leaving the show gets louder everyday as the reality show continues to disappoint in TV ratings.
Even the much anticipated live performances of the Top Final 16 last Oct 31 has failed to rake in more audience and the episode recorded a disappointing 4.8 million viewers.
The unrealitytv.co.uk noted that this is just half of the total number of audience share of the UK version of the show.
The failure of the US version of the reality singing competition to attract more audience has apparently forced Fox officials to make some changes on the show.
Citing a report by The Sun’s TV Biz, Unreality TV UK noted that “the bosses have indeed held a series of meetings” in order to find ways of saving the show and reducing the production costs for it to stay on air and not to be totally axed by the show’s producers.
An “X Factor USA” insider shed light on the current status of the show.
“People have talked as if it’s all over for the US X Factor but that’s not the case at all,” the insider was quoted as saying by Unreality TV UK.
The insider admitted that the numbers are not good and decreasing the budget as one way of dealing with it.
“It is true that ratings are down but it still does well with younger viewers,” the insider said, before adding, ““If it was to come back next year it would have a lower budget.”
As for Simon, he is seen indeed leaving the show for Season 4 and the chances of the British mogul going back to the show’s UK version is highly possible.
“Simon leaving the show would allow a cheaper panel to be introduced – and give him the time to be reunited with the British show,” said the insider.
Simon has promised at the beginning of this season to effect changes on the show and that the audience will see things they have never seen before. He may be singing the song in different tune, but it looks like it is all the same lyrics that he failed to convince the audience to sing with him.
