The Escape of the Seven Kdrama

Viewers are having mixed reactions to the latest SBS K-drama, "The Escape of the Seven." As the 17-episode K-drama premiered on September 15, viewers give positive and negative feedback about the show.

From the creators of "The Penthouse," director Joo Dong Min and screenwriter Kim Soon Ok collaborated again for another revenge-driven makjang series.

Headlined by Uhm Ki Joon, Hwang Jung Eum, Lee Joon, Lee Yoo Bi, Shin Eun Kyung, Jo Yoon Hee, Yoon Jong Hoon, and Jo Jae Yoon, the newest SBS drama depicts the story of how seven people got caught up in a twisted game after they all got involved in the disappearance of a high school student.

'The Escape of the Seven' Debuts to No. 1 Rating

In a report, Nielsen Korea recorded an average nationwide rating of 6.0 percent for "The Escape of the Seven" episode 1. Interestingly, the show's premiere took first place across all channels, making it the most watched K-drama in its time slot.

On top of that, the success of the show continues as the second episode lands a minimal increase of 6.1 percent in the average nationwide rating. This only proves that "The Penthouse" craze lives on.

However, as the drama's pilot episode began its broadcast, some of the viewers were unhappy with how the story went.

Did 'The Escape of the Seven' Go Overboard With 'Excessive Violence'?

According to an outlet, viewers expressed negative feedback after watching the first episode. Some of the audience members were "uncomfortable with the overly provocative story."

Moreover, viewers also commented regarding the "excessive violence" that created discomfort as the scene depicts bullying and harassment of a minor.

The list goes on, as some also mentioned assisted dating for minors and early childbirth. Due to this, viewers pointed out how the story was "old-fashioned" and depicted a similarity with "The Penthouse."

Furthermore, the public called out the network, stating that the story "is too high-level to be covered on broadcast."

Meanwhile, others also pointed out that "a drama should be viewed as a drama" and not as a reality.

As of this writing, drama officials, the director, and the screenwriter are yet to respond regarding the point of view raised by viewers.

'The Escape of the Seven' Episodes 1-2 Highlights

She decides to get reunited with her daughter, who she abandoned to get an investment fund from her father-in-law.

On the other hand, as Da Mi goes to her new school, she encounters bullies and manipulative friends through Han Mo Ne, played by Lee Yoo Bi.
