Netflix to Produce 'Song of the Bandits' Season 2?
Following the success of "Song of the Bandits," its lead star, Kim Nam Gil sat for another round of interviews and shared his desire to have season 2 of the Netflix series.
"Song of the Bandits" debuted on September 22 and is currently making waves among international viewers. It is an action drama about people who come together to protect their precious people and the lawless land of Gando, which they consider home.
Kim Nam Gil plays the role of Lee Yoon, who went from being a slave to a Japanese soldier to a thief. During the talk, the actor revealed that the original plan for the series was to have 20 episodes. He added "The writer said there were more stories including the narrative of Gwang Il (Lee Hyun Wook), why are we together? How he first met Nam Hee Shin (Seohyun), and why Hee Shin became an independent army, will be revealed in season 2."
The brilliant actor said that they are looking forward to Netflix producing it again. The team and cast are already preparing to work on season 2.
Did You Know? 'Song of the Bandits' Originally Had Comedy Genre
Kim Nam Gil mentioned that the original script for "Song of the Bandits" was a comedy. When he received the offer, the story was about Han Ryang wandering around without anything to do with independence and becoming an independent army.
However, people around the actor advised him that it would be a shame to go for a comedy when production costs were that big. So it was changed to a more serious genre with a twist of action.
"I talked to the writer about having to film a season 2 and told the production company and Netflix as well. We are talking more about the project to make it happen."
Kim Nam Gil hinted that season 2 might have a new villain from Japan, more battle scenes, and will have a bigger scale of production. He expressed how much he wanted to film the second installment as fast as possible so the viewers wouldn't have a hard time remembering what happened in season 1.
The veteran actor hoped to film "Song of the Bandits" season 2 in the fall of 2024.
