The controversy follows in the wake of criticisms levied against the drama series due to its portrayal of certain historical elements of Korea. Online discussions heated up after IU recently addressed the issue during a special finale group-viewing event, where she shared her thoughts about the criticism surrounding the series.

According to Koreaboo, an online community post later resurfaced featuring comments from IU and Byeon Woo Seok about why they chose to participate in the project. The interview quickly spread across Korean online forums and social media platforms.

In the interview, IU explained her immediate interest in the script she said, "I replied right after reading it. I read up to episode four, and I was curious about what would happen next. That's why I wanted to do this project."

Byeon Woo Seok also shared his reaction to the drama script during the same interview, He said, "It was the same for me, and there was an element of surprise. I read the script on the plane as I was on my way to an overseas schedule, and as soon as I read it, I knew this was the one."

He continued, "My heart fluttered at the thought of meeting everyone with a new character. I wanted to do it as soon as I read the script."

The resurfaced comments prompted strong reactions from some Korean netizens, many of whom expressed disappointment over the actors' reasons for selecting the project amid the ongoing controversy.

According to posts shared through Instiz several users criticized the actors harshly. One commenter wrote, "We need to make national history education mandatory for all citizens. Even when we point out the real problem, they just turn a blind eye and close their ears. Why use Hangul and the Korean language? Go live abroad."

Another commenter stated, "Have you opened a history textbook? You pathetic fools." Additional reactions included comments such as, "They sound so stupid," and "I can't believe their eye for looking at scripts is at that level. I must've judged them wrong."

Other users also referenced earlier concerns about the drama's premise, writing, "There was controversy from episode one about the setting being weird, but they agreed to do the role after reading episodes 1-4."
