Finally, the 40-year old actress talks about motherhood and how she chose to stay away from the paparazzi. During a photo shoot with Violet Grey, Cassandra Huysentruyt Grey, who was the founder of the magazine, asked Eva why she looked so serene and calm.
She laughed and replied, "I think I'm just exhausted as a new mom. Maybe you're mistaking that for being calm." Grey, who is also a good friend of the actress, asked her how she's dealing with having a new baby and without the help of a nanny or a baby nurse.
The star of "Hitch" said, "Esmeralda has two amazing grandmothers and incredible aunties who come over and really help me. But as far as a nanny or a night nurse, for me that part of being a mother at this early stage is the struggle of not being able to sleep and not knowing what I'm doing and really going through it with her and battling out those nights."
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling's baby is very lucky to have relatives who truly care for her. Esmeralda Amada's parents also prefer taking care of her instead of getting a nanny. An insider told E!, "Ryan is very hands on. Changes diapers, rocks her to sleep-they gave her her first bath together and videotaped the whole thing."
Many people wanted to know if the pregnancy was planned or it took the couple by surprise. When Eva was asked that question, she just laughed and refused to answer. She also explained why she decided to keep her pregnancy a secret. Mendes said, "Ryan and I decided early on to give her as much privacy as we could. She said, "We both love the Esmeralda character from the Victor Hugo novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame and just think it's a beautiful name. Her middle name is Amada, which was my grandmother's name. It means "beloved" in Spanish."
Grey asked Eva if she already thinks about Esmeralda being a teenager and when she's going to fall in love and get heartbroken. The fashion designer said, "I want to stay present with her. But I do consider how my own actions now will seem to her later on. For instance, with the VIOLET GREY photo shoot, I thought, "Is this something that she's going to be proud of?"
